Banana Republic

Banana Republic

Banana Republic

34TH & 5TH

17-19 W. 34th Street

Following the Holiday theme, Banana Republic hit the nail right on the spot.

Snow. Trees. Love. Gifts. And the models dressing in style.

However, everything that suggest holiday is in the picture. There is nothing else involved but the plastic trees on the window.

The picture makes the store from the outside look boring. The picture is old. It’s been around the city and back for a while now. It can be seen on side of the phone booths and in magazines

Gap Window

Baby Gap 54th & 5th

680 5th Ave

To keep up with my project (taking pictures of store decor for this season) here is a picture of Baby Gap. I thought the cut out trees were great but the miniature manicans were much better with the colors.

(They also make you want to buy clothes for children, even if you don’t have any! It’s so cute!)

But if someone was to ask me if Gap was following the Christmas theme with it’s colors and decorations, I would give the window a six, a seven at best. It needs more that says ‘Holiday’. Even the tree doesn’t fully suggest this time of the year.

Maybe snow flakes on the window would work.

Limelight Marketplace

LimelightThe outside of the Church tuned Marketplace.

I guess people who normally don’t go to church will go now. The only word from God they probably would get out of this church is from the plaque that is in the entrance.

Everything else about the church is worldly. After all, it’s a shopping center inside.

Nothing on the outside of the building (beside the big sign that no one stops to read) would suggest to a visitor to New York that buying and selling on a large scale is going on inside.

Old Hollywood

I think one of the most interesting shops in Limelight Market is Old Hollywood.

Everything that is on display seems to have a story behind it. There are so many knick knacks to look at.

Camera, Hats, jewelry, pins, dresses, bags, typewriters.

The sales lady told me about two cameras on display and actually knew a little bit about them.

It must be fun working at a vintage shop. It’s like leaning about history through products that you sell.

Soapology

Limelight

Another shop in Limelight Marketplace is Soapology.

If you look close at the picture, you will see the church historic stain-glass windows.

Besides the smell of the gourmet food shops in Limelight, one can also smell Soapology aroma.

Like their outlet in SoHo, this store has a sink so that each customer who enters can try Soapology products.

Each product is made organically and have rich vitamins. Your skin literally feels much better after you test the products.

You can also mix the products and make your own ‘soap’.

The scrub is the best. The brown sugar one. It makes you feel like you are on the beach taking a bath! It’s very relaxing.

Alpaca Designs

Limelight

Another shop in Limelight was Alpaca Designs.

The hats are so hot! Okay, the prices are not hot. Can be very expensive, but worth it.

The hats are made out of the fur from Alpacas in South America (which are wild animals that look like Llamas).

The hats are so soft and feels good to the skin. The fur is naturally hypoallergenic and lanolin free. It’s like wool but a little better.

Hanami

Limelight

Another shop set up in Limelight Marketplace is Hanani.  I always saw their selling post in Union Square but never stopped by to really look at the pretty jewelry. Today the sales lady started telling me a little bit about the artist, Andrzej Bialuski, and the art.

Hanami is real flower jewelry. It’s made of real flowers. She said that he uses orchids.

If you see the jewelry in person you would want to buy all of it. Each on is made differently because no two flowers are exactly alike.  Each on has its own colors. It feels like plastic melted around real flowers.

The sales person told me that Bialuski shop is in Brooklyn. I would love to check it out.
