Anything besides a Baseball Cap
Relief for Japan
Is it enough to say “My prayers are with you Japan”? And not do ‘anything’ about the situation.
Is it enough to buy a tee-shirt from Gap because ‘all the profits go to Japan earthquake and tsunami relief fund’?
Every time an earthquake or natural disaster happens, it seems to have an effect on the fashion world, a style, a fashion statement.
It gives you a reason to shop. This time it’s legit. For a cause.
What? are natural disasters suppose to be a chance to enlarge the wardrobe?
And it’s always that thought: how do I really know that my money is going where this label say my money is going?
After all, some of these labels have sweatshops in those countries where the disaster hit! Unless we make our own clothes, we don’t really know where they come from or who made them.
Can buying one tee really bring relief for Japan?
I know a prayer will, I believe in prayer.
But then as a human being, I can only do so much. God is in control.
No matter how many tee-shirts I buy or don’t buy or even how much I pray, God will still have his way in the whirlwind and his word will still be fulfilled.
Colors this Spring
It is very hard to forget certain pictures, people and places after you’ve been introduced the first time.
For me this was true when I saw United Colors of Benetton main picture for their website.
The colors and the horizontal retro pose of the models stuck out the most.
However, I didn’t think about the photo again, until I saw Hush Puppies pictures for their website.
Their photos are definitely similar. Different poses but aesthetically the photos are about the same.
What you think?
(United Colors of Benetton photo is the one with the models lined up and the rest of the photos are the property of Hush Puppies.)
Sweaters in Spring
So, Spring has finally sprung and it’s got everyone feeling “tingly” and springy. I love it.
Cars are turning up the music and kids are running out of the school building with a feeling of anticipation of summer.
I even notice that a lot of my friends are updating their status about pollen flying in the air (a lot of my country friends).
But for us city folk, finally it’s that time when we can take off the heavy jacket and show off the outfit on the streets!
I say, add a sweater to your outfit. A spring sweater of course. Especially, since we are still in the early stages of spring. Well, really, it’s not my idea. I got it from Club Monaco who is now introducing The Joshua Sweater.
A little birdie tells me that there is going to be a great emphasizes on color and pattern this spring season (make sure your sweater is anything but a common black or white crew-neck).
Instead,
try mixing and matching different colors and patters to create a new you on a whole new level. And best of all, enjoy the colors and beautiful world God gave us! Happy Spring!
God Specializes
God Specializes in things we don’t know how
He creates miracles in dire situations
And knows how to place a smile on the saddest children faces
He specializes in happiness and contentment
When we *sigh* silently and smile in our souls
He specializes in depression
When we are sorry for ourselves and think the world doesn’t care
He specializes in friendship and companionship
When we think we can’t trust anymore
He tells us he would all our burdens bear
He specializes in creation
creating, making all things new, tearing down and building up
God Specializes in things that seem impossible and would do what no other power can do.

Scarface
I took this photo about two years ago.
There was a mural of Scarface on the wall of a barber shop near the library (it’s not there anymore).
Walking to the library, the kids saw the mural and got excited.
Coming back from the library, I noticed how the sun was setting slowly as it always does in the summer. I loved the light on the wall and asked the kids to take a picture.
It was hard getting them to pose. They are not really posing in this picture.
After settling the fight over who would wear my sun glasses, I hurried to take the picture before they got irritated over something else.
A lot of the barbers were outside enjoying the breeze and started talking about me and the 5 kids. They were trying to guess if they were my kids. I don’t know what it was about me that made them realize that they weren’t my kids.
Despite all the trouble it took to take the photo, it is one of my favorite photos from Summer 09.

Celebrate with Gianduja
This week, March 15 to be exact, was my sister, Yunice, Birthday and to celebrate it my baby sister, April, made a cake in the shape of a clarinet. For icing she used Gianduja.
Gianduja is a spread made by La Molina and sold by Gustiamo.
Gustiamo hits the nail right on the head when they say it is sinfully rich and creamy.
It is often compared to Nutella but is much better because it is made with natural ingredients.
April first made a pudding and then when the pudding got thick, she mixed the Gianduja with the pudding. She used milk for her pudding instead of water. After icing the cake, she added crushed peanuts around the cake. It’s so good!
When you order a jar of Gianduja, do not make the mistake we made and leave it in a warm place. For some reason we did not know that it was supposed to be kept in a cool place and the Gianduja became watery and was not solid. Make sure you put it in the refrigerator.
Oh, and about the candles on the cake, Yunice did not turn three years old but the number three is relevant because she was born in the third month.
