Faith Ringgold’s 1967 painting “American People Series #18: The Flag Is Bleeding” in the new Brooklyn Museum exhibition “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power.”
Hi Coral, I am just now seeing your question. I think this painting is addressing a nation that is still trying to figure out how to be just and get along and at the same time hold on to old traditions. The flag is representation of America and there is a lot of bleeding done -for and in America. There are so many meanings but I think that’s a place to start. It’s funny how it was done in the 60’s but it’s still relevant. How about you? What do you think?
What do you think about this painting? What issues are dealt on it?
