The Grapefruit Story
Back in November I went to Florida, during the Thanksgiving holiday, Mother Jules (a mother from my church in Jacksonville) gave my family a bag full of grapefruits.
Now, before I went to Florida, I was sick. It was hard for me to breathe regularly. I think it was sinus issues. When I got to Florida, the clean air and good food did my body a whole lot of good. Nevertheless, the entire time I was thinking about going back to New York and eventually experiencing the same head aches and nose runs. Until she gave us those grapefruits!
When we got back to the Bronx, I ate one (sometimes two) every day and my body begin to feel a whole lot better. Of course I made other healthy food choices like drinking tea and eating as fresh as possible. But I think the grapefruit really worked for me. After all, they were directly picked from a tree in her yard. Now, I can barely stand the the taste of Price Choice’s grapefruit.
More Grapefruit!
My Sister, who lives in Florida, came up to visit during the Winter Holiday. Guess what she brought with her? A whole box of grapefruit. Believe me, we took this picture late in the game. This box was full to the top.
I consider myself blessed. The supermarkets in my Bronx are not the best when it comes down to shopping for foods that are fresh. I can taste the difference when I go else where to buy fruits and vegetables. Price Choice, C-Town, and even the corner stores do not always carry food that is wholesome. And when you do find a healthy piece of something to eat, it is more than likely, over priced.
For example, the other day I went to a corner store. I did not want chips or candy I wanted an apple. Well, there were apples…that probably were there for about a month. But that is not even the reason I did not purchase the apple. Not only did it seem old, but the price recently went up to a dollar!
So, for me to come across someone who grows their own grapefruit and basically look for people to give it too, is a blessing.
The Last Grapefruit
Okay, this should be my last blog about grapefruit…unless I get more!
As the grapefruit sat in my house, I begin to fall in love with the color. Everyday I would think of ways to include them in a photo-shoot; however, I ran out of time and next thing I knew, only two more grapefruits were left. Before someone in my family could eat the last one I took it and put it in my room.
I felt good about myself. I saved the last one from being eaten!
Then I started feeling rushed. If I didn’t actually photograph it soon, it will rotten. But I couldn’t think of what I could do with just one grapefruit.
Then it snowed…And here I am, self-photographed with that one grapefruit.
(I ate it that night.)
