Mr. Dee’s Fedora

Mr. Dee normally wears baseball caps so I was pretty excited when he came in with a fedora. I like when young men try new styles rather than the same thing all the time. I think young women are more daring – as in trying new styles – than the guys.

Just in case there are guys reading this blog and want to try something other than the ordinary baseball cap, he picked his up at Forever 21.

Aysa’s Boutique

Two weekends ago when I went to Harlem, I ran into an old friend actually she was my french tutor in college.

I was taking pictures of Harlem and came across a store on 7th Avenue between 138th and 139th Street. It had beautiful skirts and dresses on display, so I walked in and who do you think is sitting behind the counter? Amy!  We were so surprised to see one another that we kept laughing and hugging! It was a while before I asked about the store’s merchandise! However, I did eventually ask (I know that I have a lot of friends out there who is interested in finding good quality skirts and dresses).

The shop is named Aysa Boutique and sells almost everything! In the picture behind us are baby clothes and on the other side of the store are long dresses and skirts. There are also a lot of African garb since Amy and her family is from Senegal. She told me customer’s can also get their outfits custom made.

It’s a beautiful boutique and I plan making a visit there again. I would encourage you to do the same!

I was in Island Lunchbox eating some good curry chicken, rice and beans, cabbage and drinking sweet carrot juice (that costs 3.75 a bottle!) when I took this photo. I was not about to get up and go outside and take a close up.

I know you didn’t ask for all of that but the food at Island Lunchbox is GOOD!

 

Caribbean Style Icecream

Last weekend I spent a little time in Brooklyn with a friend and children’s book artist, Javaka Steptoe, who introduced me to Caribbean Style Ice cream.

So, the owner, Robert, makes home-made ice cream using natural ingredients. The ice cream was really, really good. I hope I can find the same business in the Bronx…but what I like the best was their customer service. Robert made small talk with everyone who came to buy and allowed you to taste and try.

Hopefully I can visit again in the near future and get some more!
