100 Moments

This year, if he was still alive, Gordon Parks would have turned 100 years old.

I went to Harlem, 135th Street, and visited the  Schomburg Center to view the Gordon Parks photo exhibition titled, 100 Moments. Each moment I spent in the center was inspiring.

I think the most encouraging part for me was listening to the short documentary of Parks life. I took some notes on his views of photography and his work. Listening to the video made me understand why I love his work: I find myself, he said, speaking for poor people who can’t speak for themselves…and in that way I speak for myself.  He continued, I am an objective reporter with a subjective heart. My emotions, he said, get in the way but I don’t allow them to dominate.

When I was in High School, I wanted to meet him but never got the chance as he died the year I graduated.

The photo I enjoyed the most is titled: Music: That Lordly Power 1993. Maybe it spoke to how I was feeling right then. I know it’s an image I am not going to forget.

Kudos to Deborah Willis who put together a brilliant show.

Jeff

Finally, a tee shirt that’s worth reading! Words that will make you THINK!

I think your clothes tell people who you are. It’s one of the many ways how you express yourself. This summer I have read some really depressing tee shirts. I don’t understand why a lady would walk down the street with a degrading tee shirt (I saw one that called the person wearing it a ‘female dog’).

I think Jeff pulls this tee off well and what I liked the best is that he didn’t mind wearing a historical women figure on his shirt.

He brought it in Harlem at 125th and Madison. You can visit the store, Harlem Underground at www.harlemunderground.com.

Bambi

Bambi, a photographer and instructor for the International Center of Photography shows off silk-screen art done by a Japanese artist in Brooklyn. I thought it was extra cool that she got the print done on a plaid shirt rather than a plain white tee.

If you look at the whale closely, there is a shape of a man.

1968 Plymouth Barracuda

I am selling a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda….

I took note of this purple Barracuda in my neighborhood. I kept putting off the idea to take a photo of it until one day I walked pass it and there was a gentle man leaning on it.

I liked his pose and immediately took out my camera. Come to find out, it was his car! So, after I took the picture we begin to talk about the car.

It’s going for 10,000.00

It’s a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda

Apparently he’s moving out of the city and wants to selling it as soon as possible. He asked me if I could help him and he’ll give me a cut…

If you are interested, don’t hesitate tell contact me (I’m looking forward to that cut)!
