Karilyn

So, I was about to snap her photo really quick but as she got closer I recognized her.

I knew I knew her and we were friends at Fordham but I couldn’t remember her name. So, I just stood her with my arms wide open and this funny look on my face!

Then she started laughing and we both started to laugh. It turns out we work in the same area! New York is so big yet so small.

(Not only did Karilyn remember me but she remembered my name…Gosh, I didn’t know I was that bad with names!)

Before I go, Just wanted to point out that the umbrella in the background matches her jewelry.

Elba Luciano & Gizmo

I always wanted to take a picture of Elba wearing her cowgirl hat but yesterday I actually asked. It turns out Elba was so friendly we spoke for a while about her growing up in Manhattan, her mom moving from Puerto Rico and how she came to name her dog ‘Gizmo’ (She got his name from the movie Gremlins).

She is the second person I asked to photograph and in response said- “Someone need to photograph you!” For some reason, I like when I hear that.

She also told me she will be rooting for me when I become famous.

When I complimented her on her cowgirl hat she said- “I’m telling you, I’m a cowgirl!”

Genesis, Lucely, Adelis

I see the most fashion divas in my neighborhood. People really put thought into how they are going to dress, especially on the weekend. That is one of my favorite things about the Bronx. I don’t have to go far to be inspired, see creativity or even get a great photo!

You notice all of them have on Ray-Bans? (The real McCoy people!)

Each of them are stylish in their own right and is holding her own. There’s no insecurities. The best thing about these three is they are all kind and down to earth.

Rugie & Maimuna

Rugie & Maimuna were waiting for the train when I asked them for a photo. They are both from Gambia and were decked out for a friend’s wedding. I took more photos of them but I like this one because it shows the Bronx in its normal light.

Here are two beautiful young ladies dressed to the T for a wedding but their surrounding is an eye sore. There’s litter on the floor and the platform is dirty.

I also like the bystander (or by-sitter) who is smiling as though I was aiming the camera at her. Well, it’s a good thing she is smiling because she’s in the picture.

And fashion wise, I think the print on the dresses is outstanding along with Maimuna’s killer platforms!

Fish-Net

Okay, she doesn’t have on  fish-net stockings but I don’t know another name for her ‘look’ with tiny holes in her clothes.

Mom in Style

I bumped into a mom of one of my students from a while ago. From a distance I thought she looked like Jill Scott…can you see why?!

She allowed me to take photograph her. So, here she is in style.
