Mary Mitchell Wall

Today a little boy said to me: My name is Knowledge and I am going to the second grade.

When he said this to me, I remembered the graffiti on the wall at the Mary Mitchell Center.

My favorite one is this one. He wrote ‘KNOW’ short for Knowledge.

Happy 15th Anniversary Mary Mitchell!

This year the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center in the Bronx celebrates 15 years!

15 years of improving the neighborhood.

Congratulations!!

Jocelyn

This is, Bronx resident and TCI student, Jocelyn. I was leaving the library with two of my students and asked her if I could photograph her. I thought her style was basic but also original.

The middle photo was taken by my second grader, Sade. Jocelyn is posing with her little sister.

Morise

Can you believe she is a grandmother?!

They seem to be getting younger and younger.

This is Jaylin’s grandma (the little girl who I spoke about who won the most creative award at the Mary Mitchell Center).

I love the color of her top and her hair! She’s just a beautiful woman.

Jaliyn’s Outfit

Of all the children at Mary Mitchell, Jaylin was the only one who made her outfit. From head to toe she created her outfit (with a lot of help from her mom).

The following photos are close up pictures of her outfit.

Jaylin’s Outfit- Tights/ Skirt

She has two pairs of  tights on- the black ones are ripped intentionally.

Then, her skirt- that spider design fabric is actually added on to the skirt. When she walked down the ‘runway’, she had a lot of fun spinning around.

I think that black and white piece on the top was also added.
