This pass Saturday, I went to the Museum of Natural History with two little children from my church, Azeria and Jeremiah.

I received museum vouchers when I attended the Young People’s  Unity day at my church and planed to go to the museum alone; however, changed my mind and decided to babysit for fun…yeah, I love children that much!

I’m glad I did because we ended up hanging out with Therese and Peter. We met at the museum and had so much fun together that we plan to have another play-date this weekend.

While I enjoyed the Butterfly Garden, the Journey to the Stars and the other exhibitions I thought the Flight of the Butterflies was the best one! It’s a short documentary on the monarch butterflies. It speaks about their journey from the United States to Mexico every fall. Before I watch this documentary I thought the butterflies died at the end of the summer. I didn’t know they actually migrated across seas to a place in Mexico!

At the end of the documentary, two things came to me: God is simply AWESOME and I its time to travel to Mexico!

This picture was originally taken by the children’s grandma, Lisa Diggs. I am working on a project for her and she showed me some of her family pictures. Out of all of them, this was my favorite. I changed it a little to my liking. It reminds me of the late photographer, Helen Levitt, who photographed Children.

My Birthday Prayer

This year, God really surprised me for my birthday! I prayed to Jesus and told him that over material things, what I want the most is for my close friends to come to my church and worship in Spirit and in truth with me. And that is just what happened!

I had such an awesome birthday and will always praise God for his goodness and faithfulness towards me!

I love you Jesus!

Hat of the Month

A week ago, my cousin who is a milliner and a seamstress,  Nandi J. Shuler, sent me an email. She was recognized in an UK newspaper for her first felt hat. She attended a two-day hat blocking course in Atlanta, GA in September and learned how to block a straw capeline and a felt hood.

According to the article, Nandi used to think that block hats were made on factory machines but when she found out she could learn the craft by hand, it perked her interest.

Apparently she took the hat blocking course taught by Jan Wutkowski in September and by the first week of October had already made her first felt hat (which is what she is recognized for).

When I saw my cousin in October, I was impressed by the hat she was wearing and asked her where she got it from; nevertheless, I was not really surprised when she replied ‘I made it’.

I was on the train when a lady got on and sat across from me with a brand new camera. She was excited about her camera. She looked at me for a while and kept looking at her camera, then she began to take photos of me.

I couldn’t get mad because she was doing to me what I do to others all of the time.  At first I didn’t know she was taking my photo but I had a hunch. Then, I started to smile at her because I knew she was taking my picture.

She showed me her new Olympus camera and the photos. We swapped emails and she emailed me the photos that night.

Grapefruit

Last year I blogged about receiving grapefruit from a church member who has her own grapefruit tree in Florida. This year before anyone could ask me what I wanted for my birthday, I made sure I asked for grapefruit from that same tree. I wasn’t a grapefruit fan before but after eating it help to clear up my sinus’ and kept me from getting sick during the winter, I plan to eat them every time it gets cold.

So, I got some grapefruit from that same tree in Florida for my birthday (without charge).
